Authorities arrested a 48-year-old woman after she fled the scene of a crash that left two people injured at the 1900 block of E. 14th Street in Brownsville. While the alleged wrongdoer was able to avoid the immediate repercussions of her actions by fleeing, she was later found and charged for her negligence.

The Aftermath

Brownsville authorities found the woman and her vehicle in an alley at the 1600 block of South Frontage Road and immediately arrested her. She was charged with two counts of intoxication assault and two counts of an accident involving injury. The driver of the other vehicle and her daughter suffered minor injuries and were treated by EMS.

Laws Against Hit-And-Run Accidents

In the state of Texas, it is illegal to leave the scene of a crash without providing identification, insurance information and aid for the victims involved. If injury is an outcome of a hit-and-run accident, the person fleeing the scene can be subject to a fine of up to $5,000 and up to five years in jail.

There are laws in place to provide victims with justice, but you and your loved ones may need a lot more than that. If you’re the victim of a hit-and-run accident, you could suffer more than just physical pain. You and your family should not live through the stress and despair that an accident can bring.
