Cycling can be one of the most exciting ways to stay in shape and explore the streets not many motorists are familiar with. While this fun activity can provide an assortment of benefits, it can also include great dangers. Sharing the road with vehicles of all sizes is intimidating, and knowing that a vehicle can strike at any moment can be outright frightening. Unfortunately, for three cyclists in Pharr, the effects of a collision became a grim reality after they were involved in a hit-and-run accident.

Road Troubles

According to a news report, a San Benito man was arrested and charged with intoxication assault after he hit three cyclists in Pharr and fled the scene of the crime. Officials confirmed the accident happened on Ferguson Blvd. and the man tried to make an escape towards San Juan after the collision. The man was later pulled over by Texas Department of Public Safety troopers who noticed that his minivan had dents and scratches that occurred in the accident.

The 20-year-old man was arraigned, charged and given a $170,000 bond. The cyclists were transported to a hospital after the accident where one remained in critical condition.
