High standards in vehicle safety allow us to travel with the peace of mind that only strict precautions can offer. Knowing that there’s an airbag waiting to deploy and cushion you if a car accident occurs can let you drive for miles without worry. Unfortunately, a man’s fatal airbag accident and a series of similar incidents have placed this safety component under much scrutiny.

Explosive Dangers

According to a news report, a Texas man was killed during a minor car accident after his airbag deployed and fatally wounded him with metal shrapnel. A lawsuit was filed on behalf of the 35-year-old’s two children, naming the airbag manufacturer, the car manufacturer and the dealership that sold him the car. The cause of the man’s death has yet to be officially determined but an autopsy will soon establish a reason.

The airbag manufacturer has amassed bad reputation as of late after its airbags were discovered to shoot metal and plastic pieces after deployment. At least five deaths and 12 injuries have been attributed to defective airbags around the world.
