Holiday Season: Busy Times for DUIs

by Amber Cortez | December 8th, 2014 | Auto Accident, Blog, General

The holiday season is in full force and families throughout our state will be spending unforgettable moments together as the year’s end draws near. While there’s nothing wrong with celebrating during these festive months, holiday season is known to have its fair share of dangers. With an increase in travelling and partying, holiday season is abundant in DUI arrests and accidents.

Statistics to Consider

Thanksgiving Eve is unofficially known as “Black Wednesday” for an unflattering reason. This night is considered the busiest bar night of the year and when you combine this fact with the oversaturation of roads due to travelling, you get a very dangerous mix. Reports have revealed that from 1998 to 2008, a total of 572 annual deaths were recorded during Thanksgiving holiday, with 36% being attributed to alcohol. Unfortunately, these hazards aren’t exclusive to Thanksgiving Eve.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration revealed that between 2001 and 2005, about 36 alcohol-related car crash deaths occurred per day. However, during Christmas and New Year’s Eve, these numbers increased to 45 and 54, respectively. The last thing anyone wants is to become another statistic. Stay alert on the road to keep your loved ones safe and know that the J. Gonzalez Injury Attorneys is here for you in unfortunate times.
